A Gift Not Challanged nearly enough

My soon to be daughter in law, Kari Schoeffler, has a tremendous ability to pen lyrics to songs (or write poetry if you skip the music.) I give her a challange of writing song lyrics to the motif "Lock and Load". Within 3 hours of her receiving my e-mail, I have lyrics back. You can listen to the song at www.chuckpiersonmusic.com under the Secular Music tab. Hope you enjoy. A couple of days ago I gave her another motif...."cheese" and asked her to come up with something as my #2 son, Kyle "Loquesto", is preparing to shoot a video for a Dutch cheese company in NYC (Grand Central Station to be precise). One of his buds in NYC asked if he could write some cheese music and my son agreed and said he would recut the video he will shoot to go with the music. I thought I would give it a shot also, so I asked Kari to give me some words to work with. Again it was only hours before she sent me 3 "Cheese" songs - not just one. I have no idea of how she does it....not only did she write 3 distinctly different cheese songs but three other songs as well. I have my work cut out for me now, trying to come up with some music for all 6 songs.

I have always enjoyed collaborating with music. It seems to move at 10 times the speed of me trying to do it all by myself. We have gotten into a little bit of competition of seeing if the other can be up to the challange of the latest ideas. I have to brag that thus far Kari hasn't been able to put words to a song I wrote in 1973. Maybe it is too hot a political potato as the title is "Mary Nell's Song". I may have overstepped the bounds of fair play with that challange. I don't think coming up with words is the problem for Kari, It's attaching them to the title I think she has some concern with. I withdraw this challange Kari, It's my problem to come up with the words and accept the consequences of those words when I finally put the two together.

I checked out "Lock and Load"... I've figured out what singer you channel most, because it's at full throttle in this recording: Burl Ives. Now that he's dead, you should be able to take over his share of the Christmas music market. "Silver and Gold" would be a great start.

Wow! I feel so honored! Sincerely! However, I did have a comment in regard to the song challenge. I DID send you a few opening lyrics to "Mary Nell's Song" and I never heard back from you on the content. I sent them to you assuming I would hear back from you if you thought I was off to a decent start. When I did not hear back from you, I assumed I was way off base and went back to the drawing board. You are right that the title of the song made it even more difficult for me to pen something down. I will have to go back and work on that challenge again!

I'll have to go back and look at my e-mails to see where I missed your words. Sorry.

    Chuck,
I'm definately not a writer, author or storyteller. But once Kyle told me how musically inclined your entire family is I pulled out my Armstrong flute and began to practice. It's been a couple of years since I last played. And I'm not looking to perform any concerts, but I thought that I had to bring something to the Pierson table!!!

If you would like, I can send you a copy of the sheet music for flute for AVE MARIA and you can play along with Robin on the flute from my web site.....chuckpiersonmusic.com......just a thought.   If you would like flute music for something else, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
